Night Custodian

3:00 - 11:30 p.m.

 

Starting date:  May 1, 2017

 

Compensation:  Based on AFSCME (Custodial) Current Contract and Experience

 

This position reports to the Facilities Manager.

 

The primary purpose of the building night custodian is to perform routine manual work in connection with the care and maintenance of school buildings and grounds; also performs other related work as required.  Duties include:

 

* Empty trash and place in dumpsters, replace wastebasket liners as needed.

* Vacuum all rugs.

* Sweep and wash classroom tile areas.

* Check and refill all paper towel, soap and toilet paper dispensers in classrooms and bathrooms.

* Sweep, mop and buff hallways as needed.

* Secure buildings at the end of the day.

* Clean classroom sinks as needed.

* Clean classroom whiteboards as needed.

* Clear snow and ice.

* Dust surfaces around windows, furniture, moldings or other areas as needed.

* Replace light bulbs as needed.

* Set up and take down meeting rooms as required.

* Perform preventative maintenance functions to buildings, equipment and systems.

* Report major repair or building operation systems problems to Facilities Manager.

* Perform all work in accordance with safety standards.

* Maintain supplies and equipment as required.

* Perform other duties as requested by Head Custodian, Building Principal or Facilities Manager as required within the scope of the custodial function.

 

Qualifications:

 

* Completion of high school education or equivalent education and/or experience. 

* Minimum of two years relevant experience preferred.

* General knowledge of cleaning materials and methods.  

* Ability to perform moderately heavy manual labor, including lifting and carrying 50 lbs.  

* Ability to climb step and extension ladders.

* Skill below mechanical level in performing preventive maintenance on plant and equipment.

* A physical examination by a licensed Medical Doctor is required as a condition of employment.
