Primary Purpose

To deliver high quality and rigorous instruction aimed at accelerating English language learning, exposing students to language instruction through content-based curriculum.

 

Contractual Relationship

Is a member of the Lincoln Teachers’ Association bargaining unit. Position reports to the Assistant Superintendent.

  

Responsibilities:

 

- Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of individual students across grade levels and classrooms;


- Has a working knowledge of WIDA language proficiency standards, Mass Frameworks and Lincoln Learning Standards, and develops his/ her practice based on students'          language proficiency and develops his/her instruction based on these standards;

 

- Works closely with the classroom teacher and specialists to ensure ELs’ needs are being met and students have access to the curriculum;

 

- Has familiarity with ACCESS testing and interpretation of ACCESS scores to inform EL instruction;


- Evaluates each student’s progress in the acquisition of listening, speaking, reading, and writing English skills;


- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress;


- Participates in professional development activities consistent with the district’s goals and needs of English Learners;

 

- All other responsibilities that are listed in the collective bargaining agreement between the Lincoln Teachers’ Association and the Lincoln Public School Committee

   

Qualifications:

  1. Possess a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English as a Second Language (ESL), PreK-6. 
  2. Possess an SEI endorsement
  3. Demonstrated expertise and experience teaching English Learners as outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  4. Experience in curriculum development for EL classes
  5. Possess a true global perspective and an asset mindset/approach to English learners, multilingual learners, bilingualism, biculturalism, multiculturalism, English learning, and multilingual learning. 

 

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  1. Possession of an additional valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English as a Second Language (ESL) in Grades 5-12 . 
  2. Experience with young adolescent development and middle-level learning.
  3. Experience with military families and military family transitions. 

 

The English Learner (EL) Teacher will work on the campus of The Lincoln School and the campus The Hanscom School.
