Assistant Nurse - Hanscom Schools K-8

Primary Purpose:
Assists the School Nurse in delivering comprehensive health care to students.
Applicants selected will be subject to a security background investigation and must meet and maintain eligibility and suitability requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the School Nurse, the Assistant Nurse:
- Gathers data and assists with planning, implementation, and evaluation of the health needs of students.
- Administers medication and treatments to students according to health care provider orders and parent/guardian written authorization based on established guidelines and district policy.
- Follows communicable disease control procedures and informs and advises administration and/or parent/guardians regarding school exclusion and readmission.
- Provides nursing and/or medically prescribed interventions care for students.
- Provides first aid care to injured students and staff and completes incident reports as indicated.
- Assists with school health screening programs by scheduling appointments, performing initial screening assessments, and assisting with follow-up procedures.
- Reviews immunization records for compliance mandates.
- Participates in the management of the school health office by assisting with organizational structure, updating health records and immunization records, and collecting statistical information according to state regulations and district policies.
- Reports physical and sexual abuse and neglect of children as mandated by law.
- Identifies students at risk and communicates information to the School Nurse as appropriate school personnel.
- Consults with the School Nurse as indicated.
Qualifications:
Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse current licensed in Massachusetts
CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications
Minimum of two years experience in nursing
Assistant Nurses are paid to work up to 33 hours per week. 33 hours per week is considered equivalent to a 1.0 FTE. This does not include a 30 minute unpaid break. Assistant Nurses work 185 days: the 180 dyas when the students are present and a comination of five (5) additional days. The five (5) additional days will be scheduled by the Administrator of Student Services, in collaboration with the Assistant Nurses, to occur either directly before and / or after the school year. A final decision about the scheduling of these days for the following school year will be made by June 1st.
